Steam Showers
A steam shower is a sealed cabin with its own steam generator, which is the one thing a standard enclosure cannot do: it holds the vapour in rather than letting it drift into the room. We stock 77, from a 3 kW retrofit generator at £640.99 up to corner cabins with a whirlpool and airspa bath built into the base. Two decisions settle almost every steam shower order. The first is the footprint, and cabins here run from 800 x 800 mm quadrants up to 1700 x 900 mm units. The second is whether you want a complete cabin, which arrives with the tray, the glass, the generator and the controls in one delivery, or a generator you fit to an enclosure that is already sealed. Get those two right and the rest is finish.

Check these six before you order
✓Ceiling height. Cabins on this page are 2100 to 2299 mm tall. Measure floor to ceiling, then add the clearance you need to stand the roof section up during the build.
✓Corner shape. A quadrant needs a square corner. An offset quadrant suits a corner where one wall is longer, which is why the 1200 x 800 mm units are the most ordered size we list.
✓Handing. Offset cabins are sold left handed and right handed. Stand in the doorway and decide which wall the long side runs along.
✓The electrical supply. Every steam generator needs its own RCD-protected supply, installed by a qualified electrician. In England and Wales this is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations.
✓Ventilation. A steam cabin puts moisture into the room every time the door opens. An extractor rated for the room is part of the job, not an extra.
✓Glass and finish. 35 of our cabins are mirrored, 22 white and 13 black. 10 carry an easy-clean coating, which slows limescale build-up rather than removing the need to wipe the glass down.
Browse our steam shower cabins below, each listed with its width, depth and overall height, or compare the steam shower baths if you want a full-length bath and a steam cabin in the same footprint. If you already have a sealed enclosure, the steam and hydro shower parts range covers generators, steam heads and control panels.
How do you choose a steam shower?
Work from the corner outwards: shape first, then footprint, then height, then generator. The shape is decided by the walls you already have. A quadrant cabin has two equal curved sides and needs a square corner. An offset quadrant has one longer side and suits a rectangular corner, which is the shape most UK bathrooms actually offer once the bath has gone. A rectangular cabin, such as the 1200 x 900 mm units, will sit against a single wall or in an alcove.
Only after the shape is settled does the generator matter, and it is a simpler decision than it looks. Cabin generators are matched to the cabin at the factory, so on a complete unit it is already specified. It is the retrofit buyer who chooses, and 3 kW is the standard rating for a domestic cabin of around 900 x 900 mm.
What size steam shower will fit?
Widths on this page start at 800 mm and run to 1700 mm, and the two sizes that account for most orders are 900 x 900 mm and 1200 x 800 mm. Here is how the range breaks down.
| Footprint | What it suits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| 800 x 800 mm quadrant | A small square corner, or an en-suite replacing a standard 800 mm cubicle | Little room to sit. Check the internal seat width on the product page before you commit |
| 900 x 900 mm quadrant | The mainstream size, and the one most 3 kW generators are matched to | Needs a genuinely square corner. Out-of-square walls show on a curved front |
| 1100 x 700 mm and 1200 x 800 mm offset quadrant | A rectangular corner, and the usual swap for a removed 1700 mm bath | Sold left and right handed. Order the wrong hand and the door opens into the wall |
| 1200 x 900 mm rectangle | An alcove, or a single wall run | Needs the full 1200 mm of clear wall, not 1200 mm to the skirting |
| 1350 x 1350 mm and 1700 x 900 mm steam shower baths | A bathroom keeping a full bath as well as the steam cabin | These are heavy when full. Check the floor on a suspended timber build |
Take the width from the tray, not from the glass, and take your room measurement at floor level and again at 1000 mm. Older UK bathroom walls are rarely plumb, and a cabin has far less adjustment in it than a standard enclosure does.
Height is the dimension people get caught out by
Steam cabins on this page are 2100 to 2299 mm tall, which is taller than most people expect and taller than a lot of UK bathroom ceilings once the joists and a dropped ceiling are in the way. 26 of our models sit in the 2100 to 2199 mm band and 31 sit in the 2200 to 2299 mm band, so if your ceiling is 2300 mm you have very little to play with.
Measure floor to ceiling in the corner the cabin will occupy, not in the middle of the room. Then check you can physically raise the roof section into place, because the cabin is built up on site and the roof goes on last.

A complete cabin, or a generator in a sealed enclosure?
A complete cabin is the shorter route: it arrives with the tray, glass, generator, steam head, controls and shower fittings in one delivery, and it only needs hot and cold feeds, a waste and an electrical supply. Prices on this page start at £1,299.00 for an 800 x 800 mm quadrant.
The generator route makes sense when the enclosure is already there and already sealed. The Insignia HomeFit 3 kW generator is £640.99, and it is the cheaper option on paper, but only if the enclosure is genuinely vapour-tight from tray to ceiling. Ordinary shower enclosures are not. If yours has an open top, a gap at the head of the door or an unsealed junction at the tray, the steam will go into the room rather than around you, and the moisture will find the plaster.
Steam shower, or steam shower bath?
A steam shower bath does both jobs in one footprint, and 12 of the units listed here are corner or full-length whirlpool steam cabins rather than plain shower cabins. The 1700 x 900 mm units combine a full-length whirlpool and airspa bath with the steam cabin above it, at £1,495.00.
The trade-off is servicing. Anything with a whirlpool pump needs an access panel, and that panel has to be reachable after the bathroom is finished. Decide where it goes at first fix, not at second.
What the cabin needs in place before it arrives
- Hot and cold feeds brought to the corner, terminated where the product page shows them.
- A waste under the tray position, with the trap still accessible once the cabin is built.
- A dedicated, RCD-protected electrical supply. This is a qualified electrician's job and is notifiable under Part P in England and Wales. Never wire a steam generator yourself.
- An extractor sized for the room.
- A level, sound floor. Cabin trays sit on adjustable feet, but they adjust for a few millimetres, not for a sloping floor.
- Two people and a clear route in. These arrive as several large flat packs, and the glass panels are heavy.
What it costs to run
The generator's kW rating is the number that matters, and 3 kW is the common domestic rating. Run it for 20 minutes and you have drawn roughly 1 kWh, which at a 27p unit rate is around 27p per session. The generator only draws power while it is making steam, so a quick-start cabin that reaches temperature faster is also a cabin that is drawing 3 kW for less of the time.
What people get wrong
- Ordering the wrong hand. Left and right handed offset cabins look identical in a photograph. They are not interchangeable.
- Measuring the room, not the corner. A 1200 mm wall with a 15 mm skirting is a 1185 mm wall as far as the tray is concerned.
- Forgetting the ceiling. A 2250 mm cabin does not go into a 2200 mm room, and no amount of adjustment will fix it.
- Assuming an existing enclosure will hold steam. If it was not built to be vapour-tight, it will not be.
- Treating the electrical supply as an afterthought. It is the one part of the job that is not optional and not DIY.
- Skipping the extractor. The moisture has to go somewhere, and if it is not the vent it is the ceiling.
- Building the panel in. If the unit has a whirlpool pump, you need to reach it again one day.

Steam shower FAQs
How tall is a steam shower cabin?
Between 2100 mm and 2299 mm on every model we stock. Measure your ceiling in the corner the cabin will sit in, and allow clearance to lift the roof section into place during the build.
Do I need an electrician to install a steam shower?
Yes. The steam generator needs a dedicated, RCD-protected supply and must be installed by a qualified electrician. In England and Wales the work is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations.
What size steam generator do I need?
3 kW is the standard rating for a domestic cabin of around 900 x 900 mm. On a complete cabin the generator is already matched to the unit, so the rating is only a decision if you are retrofitting a generator to a sealed enclosure of your own.
Can I turn my existing shower into a steam shower?
Only if the enclosure is vapour-tight from the tray to the ceiling, with no open top and no unsealed junctions. Most standard shower enclosures are not, which is why a complete cabin is the usual route.
What is the difference between a quadrant and an offset quadrant steam cabin?
A quadrant has two equal curved sides and needs a square corner. An offset quadrant has one longer side, so it fits a rectangular corner, which is why it is the common choice when a 1700 mm bath has been taken out.
Does easy-clean glass mean I never have to clean it?
No. The coating slows limescale build-up on the glass. It does not remove the need to wipe the panels down, and 10 of the 77 cabins listed here carry one.
Not sure which cabin fits your corner?
We have been selling steam cabins since 2006, to around 38,000 customers, and the questions we answer on the phone are nearly always the same three: how tall is the ceiling, is the corner square, and where is the waste. Free UK delivery applies on orders over £500, subject to the delivery terms, and every cabin is covered by our 45 Day Exchange Guarantee.
Send us the width of both walls, the ceiling height, the position of your existing waste and whether the floor is timber or solid, and we will tell you which of the 77 cabins on this page will actually go in. Call the team on 03333 445 932, Monday to Friday.
