Dreaming of a Mould-Free Bathroom? Here?s How to Do it
The bathroom is one of the most used (and abused) rooms in any home, and that's why it's important to make sure that it doesn't suffer from too much wear and tear. Bathrooms are natural havens for mould and mildew, for instance, since there is so much water and moisture in them. But there's a way to combat the buildup of mould and mildew, and it doesn't have to be too difficult or take up too much of your time. Are you dreaming of a mould-free bathroom? Here's how to do it.
The importance of proper ventilation
More often than not, bathrooms aren't properly ventilated. Windows are kept closed (especially during the cold autumn or winter months), and doors are usually kept closed as well. But if you want your bathroom to be mould- and mildew-free, one of the first things you should do is to make sure it is properly ventilated. Since you can?t open the windows all the time, you can simply install a fan in the bathroom. The vents of the fan can help suck the moisture out of the bathroom, and it's your first line of defense against mould and mildew. Additionally, it's not enough to keep the fan on whilst you're taking a shower or bath ? make it a point to leave the fan on for at least 30 minutes afterwards.
A squeegee or sponge can do wonders
You may think that you don't have time to wipe down the stalls or walls of your shower or bath after you use it, but it only take a few minutes. Keep a sponge or squeegee in your bathroom and wipe down the sides after taking a shower or bath. Doing this can work wonders for preventing mildew and mould from building up in your bathroom, and studies have shown that it can reduce the moisture in your bathroom by as much as 75%. If you're lucky enough to have a whirlpool bath that is self-cleaning, good for you (and there are plenty of whirlpool baths which have that feature nowadays) but if you have a regular or standard bath or shower, then wiping it down after every use should be enough.
Replace towels and mats on a regular basis
If you make use of bath mats and rugs, make sure to replace them regularly. They are ideal environments for mould and mildew since they often become damp. Your bathroom towels should also be regularly replaced, as they become damp as well. Making sure to replace your towels, mats, and rugs once a week can help you fight the buildup of mould, mildew, and bacteria in your bathroom in a big way.? Besides, having clean, fresh towels and mats is always a great mood-booster!
