Shopping For Bathroom Materials

Shopping For Bathroom Materials

Selecting tiles, counter-top and sink materials is not as simple as it once was because today there are more choices in color and texture thanks to companies like JT SPAS. The trend is to use a single material throughout the space. For example, you might use a solid-surfacing in the entire part of the bathroom or use a color that goes well with the cabinetry. In addition to enhancing the functionality of the space you can underpin your decorating theme as well.

Laminated counter-tops

There are probably more homes with laminated bathroom counter than any other surface. Made of several layers of paper, plastic resin and melamine bonded under heat and pressure, then glued to plywood or particle board, this type is inexpensive and relatively easy to install. Laminated counter-top is durable as long as you maintain it on a regular basis. Plastic laminate can resist water stains and mild abrasion. The only downside is it can be chipped or scratched during cleaning with metal brush so be delicate when cleaning.

Ceramic tile

Ceramic tile is a perennial favorite that'suits well not only for bathrooms but rest of the house. It is perfect for installation at the sink and impervious to water. This type of tile is also durable and doesn't scratch or stain that easily. Aside from its practical features, ceramic tile comes in various colors, patterns and texture to suit your bathroom. Plain tiles are very affordable but hand-painted and imported can be pricey. Combine them with any variety of trim tiles and you have a beautiful bathroom ready to use.

Stone

Granite and marble are an ideal choice for bathrooms and probably the most expensive materials you can choose for a counter-top or sink. Marble is a soft, porous material than can be stained and gouged easily to fit your bathroom design. Water may leave a mark but it's a beautiful choice. You will continue to appreciate it for its durability if you keep it properly sealed and treat it gently.

Two other stone materials are making their way into modern bathrooms in the hands of interior designers. Limestone and concrete give bathrooms a rustic appeal. As with other natural materials, these are absorbent hence must be sealed well. Limestone is available in the form of tiles, but concrete must be poured or molded to obtain the desired shape and texture. Designers today have become more creative by adding color to concrete. Some applications are routed or carved to give the space an abstract look.

Vinyl

Resilient flooring using vinyl plastic is another way to spruce up a bathroom floor. The variety of colors and patterns are vast with this choice. You can find a style that resembles the look and feel of a very expensive material as well. Regular sheet vinyl is less expensive than any other tile materials. On the other hand, a mediocre quality vinyl flooring can last no more than 10 years while a good-quality can survive 20 to 30 years of usage.
