How to Design a Child-Friendly Bathroom

How to Design a Child-Friendly Bathroom

If you have children, especially young ones, you know how challenging it can be to design and plan a bathroom for them. Whilst they can spend time in your "adult" bathroom (kids especially love it when they are allowed to go in your steam shower), it is always better if you have a bathroom designed especially for them, a place where they can have their own facilities and amenities.

A colourful bathroom or not?

When planning a kids? bathroom, it's easy for us to get tempted to array the bathroom in bright colours. But whilst it is tempting to deck your kids? bathroom in every colour of the rainbow, it is better to just introduce a bit of colour into the bathroom?s fixtures instead. You could opt for a blue or yellow basin, for instance, or even a mural for one'side of the bathroom?s walls.

It is also better to keep the other three walls a neutral colour, such as white or cream. You can add more colour with the shower curtain, for example, or the towels and other bathroom accessories.

What to consider when it comes to safety

But more important than the above-mentioned tips is your kids? safety whilst in the bathroom. In order to make your kids? bathroom safer, you can have specially-made toilet seats installed ? those that can close slowly and quietly ? so there is less risk of your children having their fingers injured when they close the seat. Also, make use of cabinet and toilet clamps to prevent your kids from inspecting the toilet and cabinets where you keep cleaning supplies. All the bathroom?s outlets should also be equipped with a safety guard, and lay down rubber or cloth mats on the floor so you can avoid slips and falls. For the fixtures, you can choose to install ?touchless? taps which can be preset to a safe temperature as well.

Other considerations

Remember, your child?s bathroom does not have to be that colour-coordinated as well. Not all the design elements have to match. Listen to your kids? suggestions. You can let your children have a more personal space by letting them paint some tiles or decorate their shower stall with some colourful decals.
