How To Clean Your Steam Shower Cabin / Room?

When using a steam room on a regular basis, your steam shower will need to be cleaned, to stop moulds and mildew build up.  As the environment of the steam room is hot and moist, it is a perfect environment for the mould to grow and can cause health issues, if left unchecked.  Thankfully, there are a number of cleaning products you can use, and each one will ensure your steam room stays as beautiful as it was on day one!

Cleaning Products

Lisna Waters recommends using soap and water to clean down the shower after every use.

Lisna Waters has an Easy Clean Glass pre-applied on most of its showers, which helps prevent the build up of limescale and water marks on the glass, this will last approximately two years as long as harsh cleaners are not used on the glass.

You may also use a water softener to prevent the build up of limescale in the steam shower head and the steam unit itself.  The electronic water softener can be used where the water enters the property so every appliance will receive the benefits of the electronic water softener.

Look Out For Harsh Chemicals

Some very common shower cleaning products have harsh chemicals that will damage the aluminium and chrome coated parts of your shower - they even state this on the labels -  so paying attention to the product labels is a must if you want your shower and chrome to stay pristine for years to come.

Products that contain hydrochloric acid, formic acid, acetic acid and even Chlorine-bleach, will damage the surfaces within the cabin.  This can be by stripping any chromed plastic fixtures or the chemicals actually attacking the stainless-steel items within the shower, causing them to rust. To help you out, here are a list of chemicals compatible for aluminium:

Cleaning Cloths

There are plenty of new cleaning cloths that are being used to clean bathrooms. These include cloths that contain silver, scrubbers, scouring pads and rough microfiber cloths - which are good on tiles. But many of these can scrape the glass, stainless steel and chrome fittings of your cabin room. This then leads to discoloration or the materials being damaged even further by allowing the water to reach the metal undercoats. No one wants an unattractive shower room, so you need the appropriate cleaning instruments and know-how when cleaning chrome.

How To Clean Chrome

As chrome is particularly shiny, it can show dirt a lot more - however it does look spectacular when polished up.

With the metal’s softness, it can also be susceptible to damage if it comes into contact with abrasive or harsh chemicals or cloths. But it is important to clean your chrome regularly to stop it from becoming over dirty. All you need is some soap and water and the patience for it to dry thoroughly before polishing it up.

  1.  Start with a container of hot soapy water.  Using the hot water will make it easier to clean the residue soaps and shampoos of the chrome, as well as being easier on your hands - no one likes cleaning with cold water!  If there is only a small amount of cleaning to do, you can skip the bucket and just use a cloth.

  1. Add soap to the warm water. You can use a simple household soap like dish washing soap but always check the label and make sure it has none of the abrasive chemicals that we talked about. NOTE: always check the label when it comes to cleaning your shower room, it should tell you what you can and CANNOT use.

  1. Using a Non- abrasive Cloth or sponge, apply the soapy water to the cloth/sponge and rub gently on the chrome areas to clean off the dirt.  Dry the area with another non-abrasive cloth to prevent water marks and polish up the chrome to make it shiny again.

  1. For cleaning the areas you can’t get access to, you can use an old tooth brush - however we would advise to use with caution, as the bristles can be harsh and cleaning with worn-down bristles is inefficient.
  1. Once this is all done, make sure to finish by drying the chrome. This will eliminate all the water marks and ensure that it reclaims that shinny sparkle. You can dry it in circular motions to prevent streaking but, once again, make sure it is done lightly and with a soft cloth to avoid any unwanted scrapes!
