Are You Planning to Refurbish Your Bathroom? Here's How to Do it Right
To some, remodelling a bathroom is an exciting adventure that brings hope (it's an improvement in lifestyle, after all), whilst to others, it's a project filled with dread (as it can get tricky and costly if not done right). Both have good arguments, and it's only normal that the average person often experiences both kinds of feelings at the same time.
Luckily, there's plenty of great advice that professionals with experience can give. Are you planning to refurbish your bathroom? Here's how to do it right.
Don't spend too much
This is very tricky, because the budget is always very important. On the one hand, you should always be budgeting with a buffer in mind plan on spending more than you originally expect, because when it comes to construction (of any kind), unforeseen problems often present themselves.
On the other hand, there's no need to spend more than you need to. Think of installing standard fixtures to avoid custom fitting. Look around for sales (for example, of tiles), and by planning things in advance, you can save a lot when it comes to plumbing and electrical wiring.
Forget DIY
It's tempting to do as much as possible yourself to save costs, and in some areas that's a great idea. However, when it comes to waterproofing, leave it up to a professional. Insufficiently installed plumbing, little cracks where water can leak into, and so on they are serious problems that can seriously harm not only your bathroom, but also your health.
Don't overdo it
Your bathroom needs to contain all the essentials, and it's great if you can install wonderful recommended amenities such as a steam shower, but make sure your bathroom has enough space for all of it (luckily, steam showers come in all shapes and sizes nowadays). But don't try to squeeze in too much you still need to be able to move around comfortably.
Don't ignore lighting and ventilation
This is important not only for your comfort and convenience, but also for your health. Proper lighting (ambient for general use, specific task lighting for your vanity, recessed lighting for a relaxing bathing experience) can help you find peace of mind and avoid eye strain and headaches. Good ventilation is equally important not just to get rid of possible unpleasant smells, but also to reduce humidity and avoid the conditions that create mould, as well as to provide plenty of fresh air.
Refurbishing your bathroom and making sure that this area of your home is up-to-date really doesn't have to be a frightening prospect; on the contrary, it can be a lot of fun, and it's sure to provide you with a much better lifestyle when it's done correctly. Avoid common mistakes and you're sure to bathe in luxury for years or decades to come.
