We all have our established routines when it comes to going to the bathroom, and these routines are already on auto-pilot, being as we do them every single day. But since most of us are quite busy during the week, what with work and other responsibilities, we hardly have the time to have a long soak in the tub. Most of us have time to do it only on Friday nights or the weekend, but if you can do this, then it’s already a good thing. And while you may have a set routine for the time you spend in your bath, there are some things you may not realise you should do as well. Your post-bath ritual is just as important as the bath itself. So, what are the top things you should do after soaking in a bath? Here’s a list of the best things you can do for yourself after a long and relaxing bath.

1. Pat your skin dry

Taking a bath is a luxurious activity, and you’re probably planning to spend a long time in the tub, especially if you just installed a beautiful freestanding bath which is just tempting a long soak. Spending time in the bath is the perfect way to relax and ease your worries away, after all. But there’s one thing you should definitely not neglect when you step out of the bath: pat your skin dry. You may think that this is an obvious task, but we’re talking about patting your skin and not rubbing it. If you rub yourself dry after a shower, that’s all well and good because you may be in a hurry to get into some warm clothes and go off to work. But if you have taken a bath, it’s best to pat your skin dry rather than rub it dry, since rubbing your skin with a towel can make dry and sensitive skin even worse. It will not take too much time, and besides, this is your time to pamper yourself, so you shouldn’t be in a hurry.

2. Moisturise

Showers tend to reinvigorate our skin and make it smoother and suppler, but baths tend to do the opposite. Did you know, for instance, that spending a long time in the bath can actually dry your skin out and rid it of moisture? This is because the combination of the hot water, as well as steam, can really dehydrate the skin. But there’s something you can do about this as well, and the answer is pretty simple: moisturise. Once you step out of your bath and towel yourself off, moisturise your skin from head to toe. You can use moisturiser, body butter, or lotion which is ideal for your skin type, but make sure you do it thoroughly. Your skin will thank you, and you’ll have a nice, soft glow as well.

3. Use your solutions and serums

Now is the perfect time to rub some of your solutions and serums on your skin as well. After a bath, your skin’s pores will open up, and this means that it will be easier for your skin to absorb your skincare solutions and serums. You’re getting the maximum benefit of those solutions, oils, and serums, and your skin will look even better and more refreshed.

4. Care for your hair

Aside from your skin and body, your hair needs attention, too! Don’t just tie your wet, un-brushed and tangled hair into a bun once you step out of the bath – you should take care of your hair as well. One of the best things you could do for your hair would be to spray or lather it with a detangling product or some leave-on conditioner and then comb it through (make sure not to use a brush, as this can break the strands of your hair whilst it’s wet) using a comb with wide teeth. If your locks are usually frizzy and dry, this is a great way to make them look smooth and lush as well.
